Obituary of Robert Bergquist

February 11, 1931 – March 19, 2017 Robert "Bob" Bergquist, Age 86 of Wyandotte. Beloved husband of Barbara of 61 years. Loving father of Susan (the late James) Stoughton and Lisa (Gary) LaBean. Proud grandfather of Tanya Sommers, Kelly Manick, Jamie Kuzala and Brandy Denton. Also survived by 8 great grandchildren. Preceded in death by parents Carl and Mary and brother Carl Jr. Robert was the owner of V.I.P. Dog Grooming Salon in Wyandotte Bob was born in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan February 11, 1931. He came to Wyandotte with his parents at the age of 16. He graduated high school in 1949. He attended community college for 2 years, then joined the Army. He served in Korea as a scrub nurse and hated every moment of Army life. He was honorably discharged in 1955. He then went to work at Great Lakes Steel. He met Barbara in the summer and they were married De-cember 27, 1955. It was said the marriage would never last, as they were direct opposites. They proved the nay-sayers wrong and cele-brated their 50th Anniversary by renewing their vows in 2005. After marriage, he took on a second full time job at Firestones. He was a workaholic! He suffered a terrible accident in 1965 which crushed both legs and put him out of work for 2 years. His wife opened the Dog Groom-ing business and not content with just sitting around doing nothing, he helped her in the shop becoming a good groomer. He retired from the shop at 75 years old. His hobbies were breeding and showing Maltese dogs with his wife for over 50 years. He also loved the Pekinese breed and raised, bred and shown his own. Most weekends found them in their RV at a Dog Show. FAMILY TRIBUTE Loving Husband of 61 years to his “beautiful, beautiful, BEAUTIFUL wife!” Barbara was the LOVE OF HIS LIFE, his SOULMATE and his WHOLE WORLD. His 2 daughters Susan and Lisa were his greatest gifts. He cher-ished them in such a loving way. Each held a special place in his heart. As he aged and the dementia took over, he still remembered who they were and told them often how beautiful they were and how much he loved them – In his words “I Love You BIGTIME!” His first granddaughter Tanya melted his heart as he walked the floor with her the first night home from the hospital. She was a crying, colicky baby but to her grandpa from that night on she was the best and most beautiful baby in the world. From that night on the bond was evident and never to be broken. There were 3 more granddaughters and all were adored and loved and each held a special place in his heart. Kelly the second born, was the talker, cuddlier and the comedian. Ja-mie the third born, tested his patience with her crying, but made up with her sweetness. Brandy the fourth born, Brandy and grandpa fought to his last nerve and she knew how to push his buttons. Brandy loved her grandpa so and was jealous of his “lady customers” telling Granny on him as soon as she got in their back door. There ISN’T AN-YTHING he wouldn’t do for his precious family. You ALWAYS knew there would be a BIG hug, a kiss and an “I LOVE YOU” when you were coming, going and in between. He cherished his great grandkids. He always called Cesar his “Buddy.” He loved his two son in laws and re-ferred to them as his “Son.” He was so very proud that his 2 daughters married such wonderful men who were hard workers, took fantastic care of his daughters and truly loves them. There just aren’t enough words to describe how much he loved his wife, daughters, sons, granddaughters and great grandkids with NO UNCERTAINTY… HIS FAMILY!
