Family tribute

Mary Louise Butson, born on March 23, 1943 to Richard and Helen Butson.  The oldest of seven children, one brother and five sisters, she was known as Marylou to family and friends. As a teenager and young adult Mary had a rebellious nature and loved to cause ruckus with her brother and cousins, whenever in trouble she would find refuge with her beloved grandmother, Celina Klimas. She had a love for the water, camping, and boating, which she got from her father. As a child she spent her summers with her parents and siblings camping, and as an adult, with her own children and grandchildren at a lake, beach, or campground.

Mom had six children, while each have their own memories, each would agree mom taught us strength, perseverance, and endurance. Mom had an uncanny sixth sense that allowed her to react to adverse conditions before they occurred. Throughout the years she dabbled with several hobbies such as sewing and canning; taught to be a seamstress by the Sisters of Vista Maria, her first outfit was a beautiful tailored skirt suit. She loved to dance, but her most passionate hobby was her interest in Astrology.

Like her children, Mary’s grandchildren and great grandchildren have their own memories of her. Her oldest grandchildren will always remember the traditional holiday gatherings on Easter Sunday, Thanksgiving, and Christmas Eve.

One of Mary’s greatest accomplishments and proudest moments was getting her high school diploma. As a teenager she quit high school and in 1986, at the age of 43, graduated from River Rouge High School.

Marylou will be remembered by all that knew her for her strength, integrity, honesty, ability to overcome adversity, compassion for the less fortunate, and her beauty.
