Family Tribute ~
William J. Streetman
May 30, 1937 – February 18, 2025
Bill grew up in Shreveport Louisiana with his brother (Guy) and three sisters (Joyce, Bonnie and Annie). Bill was only 5 years old when his father (Guy Sr.) passed, so Bill and his siblings were raised by their mother Sarah. As a child, he helped work the family farm and played basketball in school. When his brother, Guy, decided to join the Navy, Bill (at the young age of 18) decided to enlist as well. He often enjoyed telling the story of how he only enlisted to follow and protect his brother. And when Guy failed the physical and became ineligible to join, Bill tried to back out; but it was too late. Although mad at the time, he was shipped off and served 4 years honorably as a Gunman. He traveled the world aboard the USS Nawman and the USS Everglades from June 1955 to November 1959. By the end of it all, he became a proud veteran, who always said that it was a great experience that helped him become the man he was.
While stationed in Virginia, Bill met Grace Maxine Cox. They got married and moved to Michigan. He and his wife started a family and a small business. That business (Bill’s Upholstery) became well-known throughout Southeast Michigan and was successful for over 50 years. He eventually retired in his early 80s, but only after losing his leg to diabetes.
Bill loved fishing, gardening, working with his hands and creating new things. He loved watching football and baseball with his wife and they would often bet against one another. He was a great storyteller and enjoyed telling “dad jokes” to anyone who would listen. But above everything, Bill was a proud family man that lived solely to provide for his loved ones. He is survived by his wife Grace; their children, Sarah, Joe and Jennifer; his grandchildren, Jenna, Brian, Keith, Chyan and Elijah; and his great grandkids, Lennon and Ellisyn.
