Obituary of Dona Mageline Adkins
Dona Mageline (Ray) Adkins, 96, of Carleton, MI, born December 21, 1928 on the Ray Branch in Pikeville, KY. She was the firstborn of Sherman Edgar Ray and Ioma Rilda (Justice) Ray. She was the first of four children, followed by Gene Edward, Opal Irene and Billy Ballard. Gene and Irene preceded her in death. Mom married Noah Bert Adkins and they were together for 68 years, and then she lived 11 more years after he went on to heaven. Mom passed at our home in Milan, MI on Friday, May 2, 2025 at 2:08 am and went to meet him. It was a quiet inhale here and a happy exhale in heaven.
Mom said that she truly believed that she was saved in her early teens, but she didn't join a church until she was 30 years old and living in Michigan. She joined the Little Ida Church in Ecorse, Michigan on March 27, 1959. Dad said he remembered the snow and ice in the Huron River as Sid and Roy Hudson baptized mom. Later, she joined Rose of Sharon Old Regular Baptist Church when it was established near her home in Carleton and faithfully attended almost until the very end.
She is survived by her two children Ronnie Lee (Dolores) Adkins of Southgate, MI and Valerie (Kevin) Mitchell of Milan, MI; one brother Ballard Ray of Pikeville, KY; one sister-in-law Olvie Lee Adkins of Pikeville, KY; 4 grandchildren Ronnie (Mary) Adkins Jr., Melissa (Mark) Kochanoski, Jennifer (Jim) DelVero and Jessica Mitchell; 11 great-grandchildren Ryan, Alexa, Morgan, Hunter, Katie, Joey, Jenna, Parker Hope, Dalton, Scarlett and Emmet; 4 great-great grandchildren Adelina, Ambrose, Kyia and Grayson.
Mom was a master homemaker who was a hard worker. She didn’t stop from daylight until the mosquitoes came out at dusk. She cleaned and sewed and gardened and canned. It was a rare occasion when you could get her to actually sit for a second and watch T.V. with the family. She’d say she was watching, but it was from the kitchen sink, where she was finishing up the supper dishes. She loved her church and she loved her family above all else. That’s what she poured her life into. Her greatest desire would be for all her beloved family to meet her in heaven. John 3:16.
