Obituary of Val Kryk

June 5, 1947 – June 2, 2025

Val Kryk.  Age 77 of Flat Rock.

A devoted husband, loving father, and lifelong builder, Val passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on June 2, 2025, at the age of 77.

Born on June 5, 1947 in Wyandotte, MI, son of the late Edward and Lorna Kryk. Val was a proud graduate of Cabrini High School in 1965. He attended the University of Detroit Mercy until he was drafted into the United States Army, where he rose to the rank of Specialist and served overseas in Korea until his honorable discharge in 1970.

Val went on to dedicate over 30 years of service to DTE, working in downtown Detroit before continuing his career at the Monroe Fermi Nuclear Plant as a computer programmer. He retired from DTE with pride, having built strong relationships and leaving a lasting impact through his dedication and technical skill.

Val married the late Katherine Kryk on February 11, 1972. Together, they first lived in Allen Park and eventually moved to a welcoming home in Flat Rock, Michigan, where they raised two sons: Brian and Paul. While living in Flat Rock, Val was a quiet but faithful member of St. Roch Catholic Church. Though never one to seek attention, he took pride in helping behind the scenes—often assisting with the simple but important task of making sure the church was locked up in the evenings.

A true craftsman at heart, Val enjoyed working with his hands—designing and building countless projects around the house. With the help of family and friends, he even constructed an addition to their family home, a testament to his love of creation and collaboration.

After Kathy’s passing, Val found love again and married Gail on November 12, 1999. The two shared a deep bond and enjoyed life’s simple pleasures together—whether it was walking, biking, or relaxing on the beautiful backyard deck that Val proudly built.

He is survived by his wife Gail, sons Brian (Lorie) and Paul (Stephanie), grandchildren Mekayla, Breeya, Dominik, and Victoria, as well as his sister Cathy Kelly (Dennis) and June Kryk.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to St Jude Children's Research Hospital or Detroit Capuchin Soup Kitchen (charities Val and Gail both support).
