Family Tribute
Edward was born during the recession, on October 2, 1926, to Herbert and Vera Waddell. Being raised through poverty, Edward was taught hard work and determination. His father moved their family to Michigan around the time Edward turned 10. Which provided Edward the opportunity to work at a young age earning enough money to be the first of the family to attend high school.
At the end of Edward’s junior year of high school he enlisted into the Navy, trained for the Amphibious Forces as a diesel engineman and was able to run the landing craft (LCM-8). Edward learned all the jobs that entailed running the boat including signalman and gunner. Eventually he became the main operator of the boat and with the help of his crew did all the runs to pick up supplies, equipment, etc.
When Edward returned home from WWII, he completed high school and was quickly accepted into the Dearborn Police Force. Edward transitioned to a role at Ford Motor Company after retiring from the force, ultimately retiring from that position as well. Due to his successful career, Edward was able to provide a wonderful life for himself and his family. Planting roots in Dearborn, Brighton and Howell, Michigan. After retirement, Edward and his wife Betty were also able to frequent their winter home in Spring Hill, Florida. Each location brought wonderful neighbors that became close friends.
The Navy sparked Edward’s love for boating which he shared with his family. He owned several boats throughout his life and was a member of Elba-Mar Boat Club. He traveled the Great Lakes and visited many ports. Many vacations were spent on a cruise ship visiting the Caribbean, Panama and the Hawaiian Islands.
Edward took pride in many personal accomplishments, but nothing made him prouder or meant more to him than his family. They are the greatest love of his life. He will be missed by all.
