Obituary of John Apkarian
November 30, 1937 - January 7, 2026
John Apkarian. Age 88 of Wyandotte.
John passed away on January 7, 2026, after battling kidney and heart failure.
John was the beloved husband of Diane Apkarian; a loving father to Lisa (Harry) Lefferts and Kathleen (Mathieu) Cavell; and a proud grandfather to Alexa, Trinity, and Gavin Lefferts. He is also survived by his sister, Deanna Morrissey, along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his siblings Sooren Apkarian, George Apkarian, Theodore Apkarian, and Rose Rogers.
John was born in Dearborn, Michigan, to Armenian immigrant parents. From a young age, he was an accomplished musician - playing drums, trumpet, and providing vocals - and traveled the world entertaining audiences. In 1959, he played for American troops overseas as part of a USO tour. He later settled in Wyandotte, where he raised his family and worked as an appliance salesman. Helping others was something John both excelled at and truly enjoyed. Music remained a constant passion throughout his life, as did the many friendships he formed along the way.
John was intelligent, funny, loving, and compassionate - a man of many talents who loved sharing stories from his rich and full life with friends and family. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
