Obituary of Alana R. Mycek
Alana Rose (Vigh) Mycek of Southwest Detroit passed away peacefully on January 14, 2026, after a sudden and brief battle with aggressive cancer. Alana fought to the end, raging against the condition that would ultimately take her from her loving family and friends.
To John, she was and will remain the best friend, truest partner, and beloved wife.
To Jonathan (Jennifer), she was and will remain the most loving of mothers who gave up her career to raise him the right way; his protector, first teacher, and source of unconditional love.
To her brother Alexander, she was and will remain the best of big sisters.
To Darlyn, she was and will remain more a sister than a sister-in-law.
To her nephews Alexander (Elizabeth) and Christopher, she was and will remain the most precious of Godmothers.
To Gavin and Brady, she was and will remain the greatest of great aunts.
To the late Alexander and Gizella Vigh, she was a caring and devoted daughter and they are – no doubt – happy to see her once more.
To the Lutheran High School West and University of Detroit, she was a proud graduate.
To the students of Dearborn High School – for a short time – she was typing teacher Ms. Vigh.
To the attorneys who met her in the Michigan Court of Appeals Clerks’ Office, she demanded – and received – respect for herself, her position, the other clerks, and the appellate court as a whole.
To the members of the Michigan Avenue Social Club, she was an active, vibrant member and event coordinator.
To the late Hon. Vincent J. Brennan of the Michigan Court of Appeals, she was his judicial secretary, gatekeeper, a loyal source of truth, and reliable source of calm kindness following a trying day on the bench.
To her tight group of friends, she was loved, respected, and deeply admired for her stubborn loyalty, intelligence, opinions, strength, honesty, kindness, sense of humor, decency, and – to a chosen few – her Hungarian recipes.
Words fail to fully convey the wonderful and loving person Alana was and how important she was – and still is – to her family and friends. Though they will carry a part of Alana with them, they will still miss her beautiful smile, her kind heart, her laughter, and her love. Instead of looking for her in an obituary, spend some time with those who knew her well and cared for her. When you do, you’ll see a glimmer of Alana reflected in them.
Alana’s memorial service will be held at St. Stephen Lutheran Church (1235 Lawndale), Detroit on Friday, February 6, 2026. Visitation for friends and family will begin at 1:00 pm. The service will start at 2:00 pm. Luncheon will follow at The Hungarian Rhapsody, 14315 Northline Road, Southgate, Michigan.
After her family, Alana loved the U.S. and felt that our veterans were the best of us. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation/charitable contribution to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation.

The funeral home began in his home until relocating across the street to it's Delray location at 8623 Dearborn Avenue, in 1936.
