~Family Tribute~

Our dad was an amazing man, husband, father, and Paca.

A few short weeks before our mom passed, they celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary. Before they got married, their pastor gave them some advice, “never go to bed angry.” While they may not have always heeded his words, they always worked things out, and definitely had a lot of fun together, whether they were taking trips across the country, or just going out for a ride in dad’s ‘64 Mustang convertible, they just enjoyed each other’s company.

He was the ultimate girl dad, and told us often how much he loved being our dad. Although that may be true, being “Paca” to Tyler and Rachel was his favorite thing ever!!  He spent a lot of time with Tyler, as Ty was growing up, listening to him talk about trains and showing him his Lego creations, as well as trying to teach dad how to play Minecraft on the iPad.

Already a veteran at girl dad activities, like tea parties and holding the “babies” for us, dad got to enjoy it all over again with Rachel. He even let her do his makeup for him when she was 3-years old, nearly making a run to Meijer with the stunning look she created (before one of us pointed out his green eyeshadow and glossy lips).  He was so proud of everything they did, like seeing Tyler graduate from high school, and watching as Rachel started on her path to becoming a hair stylist and nail tech.

Our dad was a proud Army veteran, serving in Germany during part of the Vietnam War. He and his friend, Paul, originally signed up as part of the “Buddy Program,” instead of waiting to be drafted. While our dad went through basic training, followed by his time serving in Germany, his buddy had a health issue, and was sent home, something our dad found to be awfully “suspicious.”

As with everything, our dad found ways to enjoy his time in the Army, followed by fun times at Ford Motor Company, where he worked for 36 years.

He will be greatly missed.
