Obituary of Richard Levangie

Arnold “Rich” Richard Levangie, 92 years old, was born on January 4,1934 in Detroit, MI to  David and Irene Levangie who emigrated from Nova Scotia, Canada. He attended Chadsey High School and was employed at the Woolworth's Five and Dime store in Detroit, MI where he met the love of his life, Loretta. They married October 16, 1954 and moved to Dearborn Heights, MI where he worked for Ford Motor Company as a Scheduling Manager at the Ford Stamping Plant. He dedicated 38 years to the company, retiring in 1992. He was almost retired longer than he worked! Rich and Loretta were blessed with three children and annually enjoyed family vacations to Florida, often with their life-long friends and neighbors. These trips eventually inspired them to become snowbirds to winter in Naples, FL. The family also spent many summers at Camp Dearborn in Milford, Michigan, which eventually led to purchasing a cottage on Wamplers Lake in the Irish Hills area. Their fondness for the Irish Hills prompted a 20-year residence there before they moved to Brownstown Township, Michigan.

He was involved in the Knight of Columbus Fraternal Organization and St Sebastian’s Church where he was active helping with the annual spring festival and chaperoning the group's yearly ski trips to Colorado. He enjoyed bowling, golfing, boating, and was an avid fan of the Detroit Tigers, Lions and Red Wings. He loved being around his entire family, looking forward to holiday gatherings. 

He is preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Raymond and Ronald, and his sisters, Marie and Sally. Rich died peacefully, surrounded by his family on Monday, June 29 at Henry Ford Wyandotte Hospital. He is survived by his wife, Loretta (Slivoski) of 72 years, his daughter Deborah (Jeff Perkins) of Livonia, his son, Douglas (Jeanette) of Brooklyn, and his son, Jeffrey (Lisa) of Dearborn. He has 8 grandchildren, Jennifer (Brad), Melissa (Brandon), Brian, Jacklyn (Jeff Williams), Kristi (Eric Anderson), Ashley, Luke, and Bret. And he has 6 great grandchildren, Alivia, Abigail, Brayden, Austin, Jacob, and Harper.
