Obituary of Chuck P. Galdes
February 7, 1939 – July 5, 2023
Charles Paul Galdes “Chuck”. Age 84 of Commerce Township.
He is the beloved husband of 63 years to Virginia; Loving father of Gary (Catherine), Gregory (deceased), Cheryl Galdes, Cindy (Stefan) Majlinger, Cathy (Chris) Melody and Caroline (Chris) Theodorovich. Treasured grandfather of Yvonne, Sara, Bethany (deceased), Hannah, Carley, Gabrielle, Lauren, Madeline, Joseph, Natalie and Gunnar. Preceded in death by his siblings Mary Jo (George) Percha & Victor (Loretta) Galdes; also survived by many in-laws, nieces and nephews.
Chuck was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan. A graduate of St. Theresa High School, he attended the University of Detroit, Highland Park Junior College and Wayne State University. From 1956-1985, he worked for Giffles and Associates as an Industrial Engineer and from 1985 until retirement, he had served as a Project Manager for CKGP. He was a lifelong University of Michigan football fan, owning season tickets for many years. Chuck was a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus.
Chuck’s list of contributions to Brownstown Township is exhaustive, including serving as Trustee, Volunteer Fire Fighter, Charter Member of Fire Station #2, Past President of the Brownstown Fire Fighters Association, Election Commission, Emergency Medical Technician, Architectural Review Board, Emergency Preparedness Coordinator, and Fire Commissioner.
Chuck was the Fireman of the Year in 1977 and received a special commendation from the United Steelworkers of America in 1972 for his efforts towards saving jobs within McLouth Steel.
