If you are unable to have the service you would like to have due to the pandemic, you can still have a memorial service in a few weeks or months as restrictions ease. While delaying a memorial service may have some disadvantages, there are also some benefits:

  • Provides ample time to create a very meaningful tribute that beautifully honors the life of your loved one.
  • Makes it more possible for friends and family, especially those who live at a distance, to be able to attend.

The service can be held here at the funeral home, or you may want to choose a location that has significant meaning to your loved one or family such as a church, park or restaurant.

You may be eligible for assistance if you lost a loved one due to COVID-19 after January 20, 2020. These funds may be used towards a future memorial service. Please contact our professional and caring staff for more information and we will provide you with the required documents to submit to FEMA.

TYPE OF SERVICE | Whether you have a more formal service with a set program of readings and music or a more casual gathering is up to you.

MUSIC | Whether you feature traditional music reflective of your faith or another genre of music favored by your loved one, music can create a special environment.

SPEAKERS | If you’re planning to have readings such as a life story, scripture reading, or poetry, consider might who would like the opportunity to speak.

OFFICIANT | Consider if you’d like to have a faith leader or celebrant lead the service.

DECOR | Enhance the space with flowers or personalize it with items important to your loved one.

BUDGET | Be open about your budget so your funeral director can offer options that are meaningful yet respectful to your budget. Regardless of your budget, we are here to help you plan a service that reflects the life of your loved one.

DISPLAY THE URN | If you choose cremation for your loved one and still have the cremated remains in your possession, the urn can be displayed at the service if you wish.

PHOTOS & MEMENTOS | We can help you create a thoughtful display that honors the life of your loved one. Items may include photos, letters, awards, a favorite book, artwork, a collection, or other meaningful objects.

WRITE  | Prepare a life story, eulogy or maybe even favorite memories if you would like to speak about your loved one. Invite others to speak too.

MEMORIAL TOKENS  | Consider giving your guests items such as a prayer card, a copy of your loved one’s favorite quote, a small stone or metal heart, or another object of meaning. These small items can keep a loved one close as guests continue on their grief journey.

HIGHLIGHT A CAUSE  | Invite guests to donate to a cause that was important to your loved one, whether to an organization of personal interest such as a humane society, or one that raises money for specific health issues, such as heart disease or cancer.


Involving other mourners in the service can play an important role in helping you and others continue on their grief journeys. Some ways to involve them include:

STORYTELLING | Your guests will likely have their own stories to tell about your loved one. Invite them to share the serious, playful and humorous memories that defined how your loved one lived their life and impacted the lives of others.

SHARE A MEMORY | Make a large blank book for guests to write a memory in, or request that the funeral home creates a memory box for your service.

VIRTUAL OPTIONS | It’s possible that not everyone will be able to attend the service you planned. Consider offering a virtual option, such as a a live stream. Your funeral director can assist with this and coordinate the details.
