Vaults, also known as an outer burial container, are a protective outer container used to contain a casket or cremains. Though a vault is not required by law in most states, most cemeteries do require one. An outer burial container provides a reinforced long-lasting protection that will assist in resisting elements and physical conditions over time, including water and the weight from heavy equipment. The outer burial container also protects the casket and keeps the ground intact, thus maintaining the integrity of the grave.
