Obituary of Craig Couper Morton
March 22, 1941 - June 2, 2017
Craig C. Morton, Age 76 of Brownstown.
Our beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather and friend Craig Morton passed on to his eternal home on Friday June 2, 2017. Craig was born in Elizabeth, NJ. His parents, Robert and Laura Morton, emigrated through Ellis Island from Glasgow, Scotland. He and his brother Robert and sister Janet were raised in Elizabeth. Craig’s father worked in the atmospheric gases business for forty-four years in New York and New Jersey.
Craig served our great nation in the US Navy including two tours in the Mediterranean on the USS Saratoga as part of the 6th Fleet. He worked for fifty years in the atmospheric gases business serving roles in operations, customer service, distribution, and plant management throughout his career in eleven different locations in the East Coast and Midwest. He loved working and solving problems and could always be counted on to do the right thing, the right way. Craig gave his life to the Lord in 1992 and faithfully served his God and his local church as a Deacon and Elder. He also served in children’s ministry and was as active participant in his Men’s Bible study group.
He valiantly fought heart disease for thirty years and succumbed to lung disease in his last days. Even during his final week of life, he fought with strength, grace and dignity. He never complained and was more concerned for his family than his own well-being.
He leaves behind his loving wife, his four children and fifteen grandchildren who adored him. His greatest joy was living life with his wife and watching his children and grandchildren grow. He was interested in every aspect of their lives. Craig greatly influenced his immediate family, extended family, countless friends and colleagues with his strength and gentleness. He was often described as a gentle giant. His legacy will be honored as we all strive to live our lives in a way that would make him proud.
