Richard Lawrence Asam, 94 of Allen Park, Michigan passed away peacefully at his home on June 6, 2020. Beloved father of Thomas Asam, Richard Asam, Mary Diebel, Geraldine Trager (Ed Gordon) and James (Lisa) Asam. Survived by 12 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and 2 great, great grandchildren. Preceded in death by his first wife Margaret, his second wife Peg (Martel), his daughter Kathleen Dreffs, son Robert Asam and granddaughter Kelly Trager.
Richard was born and raised in Detroit Michigan and attended Holy Redeemer high school. After graduating he enlisted in the Navy and served during World War II. In 1949 he married Margaret Duggan, got his Associates degree and raised 7 children in Allen Park, Michigan while working at Great Lakes Steel. After a short early retirement Richard went back to work at BASF for 5 more years until he decided to retire permanently so that he could take care of Margaret who became ill and passed away in 1991. In 1999 Richard married Peg Martel and they had a wonderful marriage shared with their blended families until she passed away in 2015.
Throughout his life Richard was loved by everyone that knew him. He had a great sense of humor, would never complain even though his life was very difficult at times, and he would never say a bad word about anyone. His family and friends loved visiting him because of his warm and loving personality. Whenever you talked to Richard you always knew that you would share a few laughs and he would lift your spirits by just being around him. The one remarkable trait that Richard had was his ability to accept life as it came and never complained even the last few years of his life as his health was deteriorating. He was truly a role model for all of us that had the honor of knowing him.
