Obituary of Hugh B. Rook, Jr.
April 30, 1941 – June 13, 2017
Hugh B. Rook, Jr. Age 76 of Southgate.
Beloved husband of Elizabeth Rook. Loving father of Anthony Rook, Terry Rook, Timothy (Stephanie) Rook, and Ted Rook. Dearest brother of Roy Rook. Dear grandfather of Nicholas Rook, Chelsea Rook, Christianna Rook, Tanner Rook, Morgan Rook, and Tyler Rook. Uncle of Brett and Nathan Plunkett, Matthew Norello, and Clara Dakin.
FAMILY TRIBUTE
Hugh moved to Michigan at age 16. Most of his school years were spent in Tennessee, where he was born. The majority of his work years were at Chrysler Trenton Engine plant, where he worked as a machine repairman. He was medically retired at age 47 from a back injury. He served in the US Army in a time of peace.
Hugh had many hobbies and pastimes. He was a former member of Ford archery and Lincoln Bowman. Some of his hobbies included hunting, fishing, ham radio and photograph, and he was a collector of guns and knives. Traveling was another passion and he loved going to Florida and swimming in the ocean. Hugh was proud of his American Indian heritage and learned to speak the Cherokee language. He also coached Little League baseball for the City of Southgate for many years, and drove the church bus, taking seniors on trips, which he thoroughly enjoyed. Visiting flea markets to look for treasures was another favorite pastime but his greatest treasures were his sons and grandchildren. When his grandson Tanner was 3 years old, he would look for his grandpa and say “Grandpa – truck – ice cream.” Hugh was not a perfect man, but a good man.
Hugh will be remembered as a loving father, who taught his sons values. Much of his time was spent with his sons, going to their baseball and hockey games. He believed in God and a hereafter. He loved a full life…
