Obituary of Arlene Lois McPeek
May 31, 1932 - October 24, 2020
Arlene Lois McPeek. Age 88 of Lincoln Park.
Arlene is survived by her youngest brother Robert (Margaret) Schefke and many loving nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband John McPeek; dear friend Henry Niemiec; brothers George, Gordon, Russell and Sylvester; and sister Virginia.
Her life
Arlene was born to George Schefke and Marie Demske in Detroit. She represented her German ancestry well and was strong throughout her lifetime. Arlene graduated from Eastern High School in Detroit and completed one year of college. She worked as a secretary and bookkeeper for the YMCA until her retirement. She married her dear husband John and they resided in Southgate. They had no children. John passed in 1998. She later appreciated the companionship of friend Henry until his death in 2014.
Arlene was known for her ballroom dancing skills. As the two youngest siblings, Arlene and Bob practiced dancing for many hours together at their home in their youth. She was an avid and talented dancer. Years later she stood up in Bob and Margaret’s wedding.
Arlene was committed to her Catholic faith and an active parishioner at St. Cyprian’s Church in Riverview throughout her adult life. She represented her faith well through her acts of generosity. She lived a simple life, but always shared with others kindly.
Arlene will be remembered for her kindness and giving nature; for her strength as a working woman in the world; for her humor; for her faith and for her dancing. May she be dancing now in Heaven and free from the struggles of life.
All funeral arrangements were private. She was interred at Our Lady of Hope Cemetery. A mass in her memory will occur at St. Cyprian’s in Riverview at a later date.
