Obituary of Vickie Piñon

November 4, 1942 – June 30, 2017

Vickie Piñon. Age 74 of Livonia.

Dear sister of Irene Gonzalez, Gregorio (Sherry), and Henrietta (Frank) Prather. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by parents Merced and Cecilia.


FAMILY TRIBUTE

Vickie was a little person with a big, beautiful smile. She was very independent and had a great sense of humor. She also was a big Detroit Tiger and University of Michigan fan.

Graduating from high school in 1962. She worked a few jobs here and there and joined the Army in 1968, making it her career. She served 2 tours in Vietnam and 3 tours in Germany. She loved her time in Germany and said it was a great place, that the people were so friendly. She worked on the mechanized machinery, and was also a clerk typist and administrative specialist. Vickie earned many medals in the Army, such as the Army Service Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal (4 campaigns),  Vietnam Campaign Medal with ’60 Device, Army Commendation Medal (OLC), Bronze Star Medal, Good Conduct Medal (20 AWD) and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm. She retired from the Army in 1989, reaching the rank of SFC E7 US Army.

Vickie enjoyed traveling and visited many countries, including France, Rome, Switzerland, Austria, Germany, England and many more. She also visited many places and landmarks in the US. After retiring from the Army, she returned to school and earned her Associate of Arts degree, continuing to take many classes for different things. Volunteering was another pastime, especially for the library and senior rights. Her memory will always be with her loved ones.
