Family Tribute

Joan was originally from Ecorse, Michigan where she met her late husband, Charles Tostige. They had 4 boys and 2 girls and were married for over 50 years. She was first a Christian, then a homemaker, wife, mother, and grandmother. Joan and her 3 brothers were raised by a single mother (Nellie Hinson-Baker) and life was not always easy but she took her trials and always made the best out of them.  She loved all living things- from her flowers on her deck to the chipmunk that she claimed she gave CPR to, to the neighborhood kids that would show up on her front porch for cookies and popsicles.

Her life revolved around others and was always looking out for those who needed help or just needed a hand to hold. She loved visiting the sick, going to church, sending a note to those who needed encouragement. I think, like most mothers, she was happiest and most at peace when all of her kids were together. She loved her coffee in the morning, her chewing gum in the afternoon, and her ice cream as her evening snack.  Her favorite past time was reading and spending any free time outside at her place Up-North. She never cared too much for tv or even music unless it was an old church song. Even though she couldn’t carry a tune, when she sang to Jesus it was like no one else was in the room. She loved the Lord and every Sunday after church she would prepare a meal. There was usually a guest joining our family. She adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

When you met Joan, you saw hope for humanity and regained your Faith. Loving people was her priority and she touched many lives for the better.  She will be greatly missed here on Earth. Until we meet again- you have made this world a better place!

Cremation will take place at The On-Site Crematory located within the Molnar Funeral Homes - Brownstown Chapel.
