A letter to my Dad ........
My Dad was someone who cared....
He cared about his family, his home, his city, and his country.
He was my teacher, my protector, my confidant, my friend and an inspiration to me.
He served his country as a paratrooper in the Korean War. Then came home to
serve the city of River Rouge as Commissioner, Deputy City Clerk and City Treasurer.
He's the one who taught me to have fun with life, to be generous to people to a fault.
Who bestowed upon me his uncanny humor which I try to apportion on to others and
how to cuss like a drunken sailor.
Jerry Laginess. Dad. My Father. Thank you for teaching me humility, pride in our country, and for passing along even if only some of your intelligence, wit and unique humor to me as well.
And most importantly, for being a wonderful human being and Father to me and my brother.
Sometimes times got difficult growing up and we had to make some
sacrifices but he always gave us all the love we could ever need.
It is because of this, I believe I am not materialistic and I have always had an incredible work ethic. I don't expect anything to be handed to me. Thank you for that Pops.
I'm so proud to call you my hero and my mentor. You were the great arbitor and I never knew many that were much smarter. You were the man that I always wanted to grow up to be like, and the man that I still pretend to be to this very day.
Every time we have to endure a funeral, it is a poignant reminder of the passing
of time. So love one another.
I will miss my Father's laughter, his approval and his friendship dearly.
May the stars carry your sadness away.
May the flowers fill your heart with beauty.
May hope forever wipe away your tears.
And, above all, may silence make you strong.
