Family Tribute
Ethel Scott, born 06/28/1925 in Red Jacket, West Virginia, passed away 02/16/2021 in Lincoln Park, Michigan.
She was preceded in death by her husband Oliver Lee Scott Jr. and her son Danny Lee Scott as well as her 5 sisters and 2 brothers.
She is survived by her son Dale Scott, her daughter-in-law Eileen, Grandson Aaron (Elizabeth), Granddaughter Laura, and 3 Great-Grandchildren Olivia, Silas, and Abigail, along with many nieces and nephews.
Being Hungarian and from the South, she learned to cook at an early age. She loved to cook for family and friends. Among her specialties were chicken and dumplings, pinto beans with cornbread, fried chicken as well as biscuits and gravy, and far too many more to list.
Early spring would find Ethel planting her flowers. While sitting on the porch watching them grow she enjoyed the visiting neighbors who would stop by and chat along with others who would “come and sit a spell”.
At the end of April, a trip to the cabin was a must. It was the National Trout Festival, which included buying an elephant ear and a sweatshirt. There were other trips up north to enjoy nature, watch the leaves change colors, and be the cook for the deer hunting season.
Early December would find her addressing her Christmas cards to get them out in time. She would then start trimming the Christmas tree followed by decorating every room in the house. Christmas time really meant a lot to her –not just the season but the reason for the season.
Her memories of trips long ago to visit her grandchildren and family in Arizona were cherished. Trips back home to West Virginia meant a lot to her, catching up with family and friends.
When travel was no longer possible, Ethel enjoyed drinking coffee in the morning, doing word search puzzles, playing UNO, and reminiscing with her loving caregivers about olden days and family.
