FAMILY TRIBUTE
Elizabeth Szalka was born on November 18, 1924 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Rudolph and Cecilia Bella. "Liz" as she was known by family and friends graduated from River Rouge high school and married her childhood sweetheart Steve. She had a son Gary and daughter Diane of which she was very proud. She was a very loving, compassionate, kind wife, mother, sister and friend. She retired from (Burroughs) UNISYS after 25+ years of service. She was a hard and dedicated worker. Cooking and baking were her favorite things to do as she was known to put on many family dinners. She loved her grandchildren and would do anything to help others in need. Liz loved to shop whenever there was a sale and had a passion to travel when she could talk Steve into a trip. Her other favorite activities were Bingo and going on casino trips! Liz and Steve went dancing at Crystal Gardens on a weekly basis and attended many surrounding church activities to be with friends. She was a very religious person and belonged to The Lady of Woods parish where Steve was an usher.
Although she was unable to do her favorite things the last several years of her life she had fabulous caregivers Laura Moran and Janet Tucker who took care of her every need. She loved life and appreciated everything others would do for her.
Elizabeth is preceded in death by her parents Rudolph and Cecelia Bella, her sisters Anna Bella, Josephine Lang, Rosella Turner, Bernice Owen, Pauline Covert and her brother Adolph Bella. She leaves behind her loving husband of 73 years Steve Szalka, her son Gary (Pam) Szalka, daughter Diane Szalka, her sister Loretta Wagner, brother Fred (Joyce) Bella, grandchildren Todd (Juli) Szalka, Marc (Josie) Szalka, and great grandchildren Luke, Zac, Dean and Cam.
