FAMILY TRIBUTE
Kathy was born in Wyandotte, Michigan on December 10, 1939, the youngest of four children to Cecelia and Leonard Mielnik. She has one sister still living, Marie and one sister Margie, who is now deceased. She has one brother, David who is now deceased. Kathy graduated from Our Lady of Mount Carmel in 1957. While in high school, bowling was a great enjoyment for Kathy and she received great recognition for bowling a 299. WOW!
She went to work for Great Lakes Steel as a Key Punch Operator and took an early retirement to stay home and take care of her mother and sister Margie. Kathy was also very involved in her church, St. Stanislaus in Wyandotte and was actually the key person in starting the 24 hour Perpetual Adoration at that church. She was very involved in her church organizations. She sang in the choir. Belonged to prayer groups and the Altar Society.
Kathy’s hobbies were gardening and going up north. She was very active and loved hiking in the woods, swimming in Blue Lake, ice skating and horseback riding. She also taught her friends patience- her motto being, “Be cool, calm and collected.” She was also a VERY GOOD driver and drove her sister Marie everywhere. Marie did not even learn how to drive until she was 66. Kathy belonged to a number of leagues and clubs such as a bowling and golf league and an ice skating and swimming club. She has also traveled to Hawaii, Greece and the Holy Land. What an active life and so very memorable. Kathy also fondly remembers wonderful childhood memories such as her mom sewing dresses for the three girls and teaching them to cook. Kathy’s hobbies now are watching her beautiful flat screen TV, sitting in the hallway people watching or attending special events with Marie and Kep.
Kathy came to reside here at Manor of Southgate on August 25, 2000. Her sister Marie comes nearly every day and reads with her and visits and her best friend Kep of 54 years was always there for her. Recently Kathy and her family donated a Wii game for activities. Kathy loves to play the bowling game on the Wii and is it no wonder since she was such a good bowler.
Kathy touched many lives all for the GOOD. Lee and Elnora Hogle considered her and angel. Kathy kept their kids out of trouble. HA HA HA many stories there. God has a plan. We didn’t understand the one for Kathy, but Kathy did. Kathy and Father John Hedges set up 24 hour Adoration at St. Stan’s Church. Kathy covered many night hours when someone couldn’t make it. To write all that Kathy did would be books. To end this with a quote from Kathy, she would tell Kep, “It’s between God and me!”
