Obituary of Zolten A. Ambrus
October 19, 1924 – September 23, 2017
Zolten A. Ambrus. Age 92 of Melvindale.
Beloved husband of the late Irene Ambrus. Loving father of David Ambrus, Sandy (Susan) Ambrus and Patricia (Jan) Dykshoorn. Dearest grandfather of Dayle (Elizabeth) Ambrus, Lani Ambrus, Elizabeth (Joe) Weiss, Mark Ambrus and Travis Ambrus.
FAMILY TRIBUTE
Zolten was born in Plymouth, MI. He was raised in the Delray area of Detroit. He graduated from Southwestern High School, and from the Henry Ford trade School. He attended Lawrence Institute of Technology. He earned his BA and Master’s degree from Wayne State University. In 1943 he was drafted and entered the Army Air Corps and served as an instructor in Engine Operations at the Airplane Mechanics School in Amarillo Texas. He was honorably discharged in May of 1946. Zolie had worked for Ford Motor Company, Kaiser Frazer Motor Car Company in Willow Run, and for 34 years, was employed by Detroit Public Schools as a teacher, counsellor, Evening School Principal and Chief Examiner for GED Testing Program. He retired in 1986. Zolie grew up in the Hungarian Reformed Church and was an active participant in its ministry. It was in this church that he would meet and marry his wife of 60 years, Irene. He served as a Ruling Elder, Sunday School Teacher, He was blessed with a beautiful singing voice and sang in both Hungarian and English choirs. He conducted the Nursing Home Visitation Ministry for many years with his mother and other members of the church. Zolie was preceded in death by Irene, his father, his sister Barbara Banas, his mother, his brother Arthur, and his sister Julia Balogh. He is survived by his children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Zolie’s family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the wonderful caregivers at Anestis Senior Care in Woodhaven, Arbor Hospice, and all who came to visit him.
