Family Tribute
Angelo was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, son and friend to everyone he met. He grew up in Detroit and attended Blessed Sacrament Cathedral during his younger years. Upon graduation from high school, he joined the Armed Forces and proudly served in the U.S. Navy during WWII.
After returning home from the service, he married his sweetheart, Nell, and together they had five children. He completed a two-year program at Ford Trade School, along with working two jobs until being hired by the Internal Revenue Service. Although he retired after 30 years from the IRS, he wasn’t quite finished. He continued to do Accounting and Tax work with Bawol Accounting for several years and formed life long friendships with the owners and his co-workers.
The majority of his married life was spent living in Southgate and attending St. Pius Church for 52 years. He was an active member of parish life and the Knights of Columbus and played an instrumental role in the expansion/development plans for St. Pius School and St. Thomas Aquinas High School which served multiple parishes in the Downriver area.
Angelo’s wife passed away in 2002 after 53 years of marriage. He remained in their Southgate home until 2007 and then moved to the new Bridgewater by Del Webb active adult living community in Brownstown. He joined St. Roch Catholic Church in Flat Rock and faithfully attended Mass at the Church until the Pandemic upended his routine. He adjusted by tuning in to Mass for Shut-Ins every Sunday. When he was able to attend in person, he always wanted to be in the front row to make sure he could hear the readings and the homily. He would make sure to get a copy of the Church bulletin after Mass and he would turn right to the page with the financials and comment on whether the collections were over or under that week. That was the accountant coming out in him.
Over 12+ years at Bridgewater, he participated in many community activities, golfed in the men’s league, played poker, went on casino trips and enjoyed monthly dinner outings with the singles/solo group. He also made his daily trek to the fitness center, pool and hot tub. Although he gave up some of his activities over the last few years, he still made it to the pool, did his own shopping, his own laundry and took care of his condo with minimal help. It was only during the last 12 months that things changed for him, as it did for all of us, with the last four or five months being the most dramatic for him health-wise. The last few months were pretty tough on him and at 93 years old and after having lived a good life, he was ready to go back home.
He was blessed with great neighbors and friends throughout the Community as well as many immediate and extended family members. We are thankful that he is now at peace and able to be in Heaven with his wife and son, his mother and father, two brothers and two sisters along with his mother and father- in-law, three brothers in law, a niece and nephew and most importantly to be with our Lord Jesus Christ.
