Family Tribute

Jerry Wayne Brown, born March 8, 1942, began his Eternal Journey on April 20, 2021. Jerry Wayne, or Papa, was a man of God, love, strength, loyalty, and devotion. During his 79 years, he held many titles; he was a loving son, brother, husband to Anita (Gimma aka Grandma) of 42 years, father, uncle, Papa, and the utmost great-Papa and friend. His character surpassed a good belly laugh or reddened cheek that captured the eye of Grandma leading to their marriage after their journey and adventure of re-finding one another years later.

Papa’s life was a reflection of his sweet mother’s favorite Bible verse of Isaiah 26:4 “Trust in the Lord forever.” While reflecting over his life, we can see how he had trusted in our Lord; in his health hardships, and while helping friends and family. I can speak to this truth as him and my grandma introduced me to Christ and that by walking with the Lord I will always be saved no matter what I am walking through here on earth. It became a habit for when I needed prayer growing up, even in adulthood; I knew Papa was always one phone call away for a quick prayer and an “I love you.” Within the last couple of weeks, his spirit was pushed into overdrive as he knew the end was coming. He did not hesitate to tell me how proud he was in the woman I became and he admired my faith in our Heavenly Father, and that he will always love me and pray for me. Despite his earthly breath slowly escaping him, his unlimited jokes, quick wit and reassuring love with kisses and hugs remained. As we remember such a handsome gentleman, who played many roles to all of us, we know him as one whom was devoted to the ones he loved and he would never walk away from. Papa taught me how that no matter how hard things got, that if standing became too hard that it was okay to kneel as the Lord will carry you out of it.

Now as I look up and thank the Lord for an amazing Papa that stepped up and took me in as a daughter (with Gimma) when I needed it. You definitely showed me the truth in your favorite Bible verse Proverbs 22:6 “train a child in the way they should go, and when they are old they will not turn from it.” I truly hope to fulfill this for you and Gimma. I will forever be eternally grateful God chose you to be there for me. Remember that I will always love, love, love you stud muffin #1, until we meet again.

Shelby Lynn xoxo
