Obituary of Richard Nimeth

Richard. G. Nimeth Sr. 75 of Flat Rock Michigan entered into eternal rest on September 30, 2021.

Eight days after his beloved bride Kay of whom he loved and was Devoted to for 62 years.

Their love story continues. ….

He was born to George and Stacia Pyjar Nimeth of Southgate, Michigan, raised in a devout Catholic home with old fashion family-first values. Rick carried those values and morals with him daily.

The sweetest big brother and tormentor to Gloria (Randy) Dunn of Indiana.

The stories of their childhood summers in Cross Village, Michigan, will bring hours of memories and laughter. When Rick put his little sister into a cement mixing box and pushed her into the pond -she couldn’t swim. Sometimes he had help from his uncle Junior, and they would scare the daylights out of her every chance given. When Gloria found her soulmate, he took Randy to the bar for a stiff drink, a firm talk, and a few rounds of pool.

Rick could be found racing his 65 Cornet up and down the streets of the downriver area. He kept his cars in perfect running condition to keep the white carpet pristine he would make passengers remove their shoes. Yes - even Kay and even on their wedding day. He would soon trade the speeding tickets for towing charges as he joined the 4X4 club. There wasn’t a mountain or hill that he was afraid to climb. The endless stories of mudding trips, weekends spent off-road exploring, and a few tows out of a ditch - but we won’t name any names, Will forever give the family the best stories to tell gathered at the dinner table with their children and grandchildren.

Rick was the O. G. MacGyver.

He could fix anything there wasn’t a project or repair started that didn’t consist of throwing away all written instructions and a phone call to Him. Usually, by the second phone call, he was pulling in the driveway with the parts to fix the broken project or just a helping hand to finish faster.

Fresh out of high school, he started working for Great Lakes Steel and eventually retired from Detroit Edison in 2009. He was always putzing about. Touching up little paint projects, tending his garden, wrenching in the garage. Lying awake at night listening for a blade of grass to grow taller than the others or a leaf falling on his beautifully manicured lawn, that of which was promptly removed or trimmed as needed. His green thumb was the envy of all.

Rick had a heart of gold. He was a friend and confidant to all. His work ethic and handshake proved better than any contract – his word was his honor – and Rick always kept his word.

Rick had the patience of Job, and that patience stood the test of time as the title of dad was given to him three times.

His namesake Richard (Marge), his baby boy Anthony (Brenda), and his pumpkin-daddy‘s girl Stacie England (AKA sis).

He instilled into his three children his very work ethic. Above all, he showed them how to love unconditionally and persevere through any situation. The legacy he leaves behind will forever tell the story of one of the greatest men to walk the earth.

Rick had many titles. Husband, dad, brother, son, and Uncle. His favorite, hands down the most fun, was PAPA.

He was the absolute best Papa ever to - Nicole, Jacob, Richard (Kaity), Robert, Sydney, Michael, and Maxwell. And even prouder great Papa to Ellie and Aubrey.

Papa didn’t miss a soapbox derby or a chance to help make a car to win the race. He made every scout meeting and cookie sale. He sat through endless football games, marching band competitions and dance recitals. He didn’t miss a milestone moment for any family member.

Rick, with everyone’s biggest fan at any moment, you could look to the crowd and see him cheering you on louder than anyone. He was famous for his N-shaped pancakes or French toast when grandchildren spent the night . There was always some fun project or a special game that would be played. Whether it was a quick trip to the cabin to mow the grass to have steak bits cooked over an open fire, or trips to Dairy Queen for ice cream. Papa made every visit just a special as the last.

Rick always made special treats for visitors, always keeping your favorite beverage cold in the fridge; for the over 21 crowds, his special “trunk shots“ always hit the spot for any occasion. His culinary skills would earn him a Michelin star from his famous cherry squares, creamy cucumbers and stuffed cabbage. The famous Coca-Cola board where each family member or friend would have their name up for a whole month at least once a year. It was everyone's claim to fame.

Our hearts are heavy, and grief overcomes us as we prepare our next journey and steps without you. We find solace knowing you are dancing with your beloved bride Kay. Proving that true love never dies; it just continues in heaven.

Love lives on.

Those we love, remain with us

for love itself lives on,

and cherished memories never fade because a loved one’s gone.

Those we love can never

be more than a thought apart,

far as long as there is memory,

they’ll live on in our hearts.
