Family Tribute
Jerry was born in Detroit, lived there as a young child, attended All Saints School. Family moved to Lincoln Park mid 1950’s and he attended Christ the Good Shepherd then Lincoln Park Junior High and High School. Jerry followed his father’s career path and became a journeyman glazier. He worked 30 years in the glass industry before retiring and starting a second career renovating houses. He was self taught and could do nearly every aspect of home modernization. He “flipped” about 11 houses over 15 years and installed new kitchens in others. He did telework like a professional, he was very meticulous to detail. His results were beautiful. He could fix anything!!!
He had a great love of the outdoors and went deer hunting every November for decades. Fishing was his passion and would have fished daily if possible, ironically he never kept or ate them. Although he never was a golfer he loved to watch it and was a loyal Lions fan.
Jerry’s greatest joy was get-togethers with family. He’d spend hours preparing and setting up for gatherings. He loved having all the kids over and worried about them. His beloved brother had recently moved back to Southgate after a 40 year gap. He loved their time together. He said many times throughout his illness it was God’s plan that Larry was here.
Jerry was never in the military but admired all that served. He insisted on flying the flag everyday. He was quiet but content to sit and laugh at the silliness around him or just hold babies. Jerry loved Florida and warm weather.
His greatest love was family, never got tired of them visiting. Said a few days ago he was not afraid but so sad to leave so many he loved. Jerry was a very loyal friend, would drop anything to help a friend.
He had a big soft spot for kids. He always wanted to win the lottery and give it to St. Jude’s and Make-A-Wish.
