Carl E. Johnson. Age 92 of Riverview.
Beloved husband of the late Lois. Loving father of Ruth Walls, Sarah Johnson, Jamie (William) Renshaw, Mary (Paul) Sawicki and Rebecca (Michael) Cheng. Also survived by 8 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Cremation will take place at The On-Site Crematory located within the Molnar Funeral Homes - Brownstown Chapel.
Family Tribute
Carl Johnson was born in 1929 in Joliet, Illinois to his parents, Melvin and Ruth Johnson. He grew up with three brothers. Carl attended Cincinnati Bible College, graduating in 1951 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Divinity. He moved to the downriver area to minister at Lincoln Park Christian Church. There he met his beloved Lois. They were married for 67 years before her passing in 2019.
Carl then attended the University of Detroit receiving a Master’s Degree in Education. He taught in Wyandotte Schools for 38 years. He mainly taught sixth grade. He was known as “Mr. Camp” because of his great love of outdoor education.
Carl is survived by his five daughters, Ruth Walls (Vaughn; deceased), Sarah Johnson, Jamie Renshaw (William), Mary Sawicki (Paul) and Rebecca Cheng (Michael). He is also survived by his 8 grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter.
Carl was a minister at Trenton Christian Church for many years. After retirement he joined Southpoint Community Christian Church where he served as an Elder and Minister of Pastoral Care. He loved to study the Bible. He had recently completed studying the Psalms and putting them to music. He had written two personal Psalms of Thanksgiving.
Carl was a huge Tigers fan. He took his girls to many Tiger games through the years. He watched the Tiger games throughout his life.
Carl enjoyed woodworking. He built and restored furniture. He built dollhouses for his wife and daughters. He built a red barn complete with animals. His great-granddaughter plays with it now.
Carl loved God, his wife, Lois, and his family. On December 5 the Lord took him to his Eternal home.

Our History
John Molnar, Sr. opened the Detroit Hungarian Funeral Home, now the Molnar Funeral Homes, in 1923. The funeral home began in his home until relocating across the street to it's Delray location at 8623 Dearborn Avenue, in 1936. He had a strong work ethic and believed that you should never stop learning...
