Buddha, there are so many memories. Where do I begin? We met late '86 and ended up hanging every day at Mike's apartment as the "zoo crew."
Christmas '86, you were working at the Flat Rock Kmart and tossed cartons of cigarettes at everyone. Yoy and I used to argue the importance between Zeppelin and the Beatles (at that time, the Beatles were as important to your life as Zeppelin is to mine). There was the Topaz you drove, with the portable CD player (brand new thing at the time) that skipped at every bump, spawning a whole new debate as to the ruggedness of cassettes against CD players, lol! The time you had the Firebird and we were having a silly string battle while rolling down 75. You introduced me to my "first" and even though it crashed and burned, I never held it against you. Never even had a thought of it. The time you borrowed my cymbals for a gig and one ended up getting cracked, you'd hunt me down to make payments, even though, again, I didn't ask, nor expect (this speaks volumes for the integrity you ALWAYS had) The rides we would take either to Hell, Herman's, or Smoke's BBQ. That gorgeous acrylic "John Bonham" style drumset had me envious, but you played it till the wheels fell off, and I was happy for you that you had found it. Hell, even my wife, who can be tons more critical than I, instantly loved you. She said that out of all my friends she had personally met, you were one of only two she could notice a real genuine spirit in. When we'd get into political discussions, neither one of us sank to insults and genuinely listened to each point of view. I'm going to miss you terribly, but every memory I have will keep my chin up till one day when we run the sky pack together. Save me a spot in that pack, Brother. I'll be as proud then, as I always was before, to ride next to one of the best friends/Brothers I've ever had.
