Family Tribute
Born Charles Andrew Schaaf on January 20th, 1945 to John and Sylvia (Dalzell) in Detroit. He had 4 siblings, Frank, John, Alfred, and Alfreda. After attending school, he joined the Navy in 1964. During that time, he served aboard 2 aircraft carriers, the Bonhomme Richard CVA 31, and the Hancock CVA 19, achieving the rank of Petty Officer 3rd Class. In late 1967 he was granted an early honorable discharge and he was married to Sylvia Lee Moore on September 9th of that same year. Shortly after the Navy he went to work with Ford Motor Company at the Woodhaven Stamping Plant as a line worker and remained there until retirement in January of 1999. With his wife Sylvia, he had 2 sons, Gregory and Johnathan. Gregory married Alisa and together they have 1 child, Ellen. Johnathan married Penny and they have 3 children, Ethan, Rebecca, and Lucy.
Charles loved spending time with family and had a special bond with his 4 grandchildren. He enjoyed the simple things in life most like going on short vacation trips, going out to eat, visiting Greenfield Village/Henry Ford Museum, family gatherings, and watching sporting events - keeping up with how local teams fared, particularly Red Wings hockey. He was the sort of person that could strike up a friendly conversation with anyone at any time. He had an internal drive to help anyone that was in need of assistance. From helping to fix vehicles, to household repairs - if some benefit could be had from his knowledge or experience, he was there, remaining until he was certain the situation was completely taken care of. When his health began to decline in recent years, he met each challenge head-on with a resolute strength and tenacity that never wavered. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Cremation will take place at The On-Site Crematory located within the Molnar Funeral Homes - Brownstown Chapel.
