Obituary of David Raymond Godwin
May 23, 1939 – December 29, 2021
David Raymond Godwin. Age 82 of New Boston.
Beloved husband of the late Karilynn Godwin. Loving father of Alicia Godwin, Diane (Mark) Searcy and David Godwin. Dearest grandfather of Sadie and Sarah Searcy. Great grandfather of Sage. Dear brother of Sam (Caroline) Godwin.
Family Tribute
Dave Godwin was one of the kindest, humblest, and generous men you could ever have the pleasure of knowing. He had a calm spirit about him coupled with a sense of humor at times that could just crack you up! Dave had a lifelong case of wanderlust. He was a world traveler, even crossing the Arctic Circle in his military career. Most recently, he went to see the pyramids in Egypt. He loved visiting museums, particularly any Air Force or airplane museums.
Other things Dave enjoyed greatly were Bluegrass, Dixieland Jazz, Nascar, and he loved to go watch Stock and Sprint Car racing. Dave lived out his passion for flying for over 50 years through his time in the Air Force and civilian careers at Zantop Int’l Airlines, Airborne Express, and National Airlines, Nomads Travel Club, and also, having his own private plane at Grosse Ile Airport for a time.
Dave was married to his wife Karilynn for 49 years. He was the father of three children, the grandfather of two granddaughters, and one great-granddaughter. He was a good father-in-law, brother, cousin, co-worker, neighbor, and friend. Dave was able to enjoy retirement by spending time with family and friends and taking trips to explore new places. One of his favorite things to do was to make his daily trip to the donut shop for coffee and conversation with his friends there.
He will be terribly missed. We will miss his company, his stories, and just having a cup of coffee or lunch together but will cherish every memory and the honor of knowing him.
