FAMILY TRIBUTE

Friday January 7th, 2022, we gather to celebrate the life of an amazing person, our mother Lois Akowitz.

Lois was born in Nashville Tennessee in 1946 to Lona and Edward Eddy.  After moving to Michigan at an early age, Lois attended Fordson High School where she met and eventually married John Akowitz.  She was a successful career woman who graduated from Wayne State University in 1977 with a bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy and worked as such until retiring in 2011.

Our mother was a tenacious and strong woman with an amazing sense of humor and love for her family.  She had the most gorgeous smile and irresistible laugh.  Never sweating the small stuff, mom was known for her easy going manner, her ability to tease, be teased and to laugh at herself.  As a family we were always connected, be it a quick conversation or Sunday night dinner.  One of our favorite times was celebrating Christmas Eves in her basement.

Lois loved traveling, staying busy and was rarely idle.  She spent decades making memories with family and friends traveling all over the United States and Canada,  Later in life she enjoyed traveling abroad to places such at Australia, Poland, the Caribbean and many other destinations.  She loved talking about seeing whales in Alaska with her daughter and dolphins in Florida with her son and grandson.  Lois joined pilates at the age of 69 and could be found in the studio many days and evenings laughing and sweating with and encouraging other members.

While we will terribly miss her smile, her personality and her laugh, we know she will be happy to be reunited with her husband, sister and family that has gone before her.  Lois is survived by her children Leigh (William) Rowlett and Michael (Nicole) Akowitz and her grandchildren Zachary, Lillian and Hannah.

Thank you Mom for being the wonderful person you were….for being our mother.
