Beloved husband of Bonnie Straight and the late Doris Straight.  Loving father of David (Carol) Straight, Mark Straight, Ken (Lori) Straight and the late Melvin Straight Jr.  Dearest grandfather of Ryan (Steffany) Straight, Bethany (Jeff) Sundell, Emily Straight, Grace Straight, Caleb (Tess) Straight, Jesse (Sarah) Straight.  Great grandfather of Moses Straight, Bea Sundell, Thor Sundell, Owen Straight, Isaac Straight and Abigail Straight.  Dear brother of Arlo Straight and the late Elwin Straight.

Family Tribute

Mel grew up in Garden City, Michigan, and graduated from Fordson High School in Dearborn. His life gained purpose when he gave His life to the Lord Jesus Christ. After college, he spent 15 years pastoring around Michigan. He obtained 2 master's degrees and retired from teaching/counseling at Wayne-Westland schools. He retired to Traverse City for 15 years while still working in construction and substitute teaching. After 56 years of marriage to Doris, he married Bonnie and moved to Woodhaven, Michigan where he ministered to many inmates through Mel Straight Ministries, invested in real estate, and was actively involved at Forecast For Life Church of Southgate, Michigan. As one nephew called him, “my rich uncle”, Mel was “rich” in many ways - an encourager, jokester, and a great man of God. Although he will be missed, we rejoice in knowing that he is now richer than ever before!
