FAMILY TRIBUTE
John A. Roman, Jr. was born on November 15, 1932 in Benton, Pennsylvania. He married the love of his life, Eileen and had five children; Michael, Elaine, Joan, William and Rosalie. John joined the Army and served in the Korean War PFC from 1953-1955. He received the Good Conduct Medal of Honor as well as the National Defense Service Medal. He was a Teamster. John also received a Honorable Discharge. After he served in the army John worked for 30 years at Sears as a appliance repair man. He probably worked on everyone’s machines in Southgate. He also worked for 10 years at P.A. Railroad as a trackman. John retired from Sears in 1995.
John was baptised and confirmed at St. Januarius in Benton, PA. He belonged and was active at St. Pius since 1967. John worked extra jobs to put all five kids through eight years of catholic school at St. Pius. He was active on the athletic Dad’s Club. He was a devoted Catholic and attended as long as he was well. In recent years he felt bad about not being able to attend and he made sure he prayed with the Shut-In-Mass every Sunday.
John had a dedication to everything. He was a happy and very social man who loved people and always looked nice. He was The Original American Picker. John loved antiques and loved to build and carve. He was a wood worker, he fixed and repaired anything and everything. He built his house, remodeled homes, built cabinets carved ducks at Santac.
John would want to be remembered most for loving his wife and family. “Pride & Joy” God, country and family!
We will remember him as the hardest working man around. He always took us on vacation, for ice cream, and to Cedar Point. He was funny and loved us with all his heart and soul. He is missed and loved.
