FAMILY TRIBUTE
William and Rita Peck welcomed their son, James Thomas, on April 29th, 1959, at Providence Hospital in Detroit, Michigan. Their fifth child, he joined his brothers, Bob and Bill, and his sisters, Judi and Carol. His sister Sue would arrive four years later. Jim was a beautiful baby with lots of blond hair, blue eyes and beautiful dimples. Those dimples were always showing, as Jim always had a smile on his face. He was quick with a joke, even what his family called “Jimmy make up” jokes. They didn’t always make much sense, but he thought they were hilarious. Jim attended St. Joseph Grade School in Wyandotte, and Gabriel Richard High School. While in school, he was involved in many activities; band, chorus, school plays and musicals. He graduated in 1977, and in 1984 went to work for the City of Wyandotte. On November 1, 2017, after 33 years, he retired as a boiler operator at the city power plant. He made many great and cherished friendships while he was there and they remained his dear friends to the end and he considered them his “brothers.” Over his career, Jim worked many different shifts, was rarely late for work, or never called in sick, because this wouldn’t have been fair to his co-workers.
On June 11, 1994, Jim married the love of his life, Laura Wilson. Jim was devoted to her and together they made their life in Wyandotte. He brought Laura’s mother, Jessie, to live with them, and helped Laura care for her when she became ill. Jim and Laura had many fur babies over the years, and their dog, Bella, was his constant companion. Together, they would take long rides in his truck. Jim had many hobbies. He was an accomplished bowler for many years and even bowled a 300 game. He also enjoyed playing golf. He was a great cook and loved to try new recipes.
On December 10, 2017, Jim lost his fight with brain cancer. His love, Laura, was by his side, and he held her hand tightly. He fought a long and courageous battle until the end. He will always be remembered for his big smile, his kindness, his sense of humor and his generous spirit. He was the best husband, brother, uncle and friend anyone could ask for, and his family will be forever changed with his passing.
