Family Tribute~

Ed Elsesser was a loving husband and partner for over 65 years to Mary (Karp) and together they raised six children,16 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.  A lifelong member of St. Patrick’s parish in Wyandotte, he and Mary exchanged their vows there in October 1958, shortly after he returned from serving as an Army tank mechanic in Wiesbaden, Germany.  Ed was an active member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1802, serving as a counselor for their Squires youth group, and giving freely of his time and talents by leading and participating in their community outreach programs.  He served as administrator of the Edmund T. Bott Education Foundation, which he developed to assist local school children by providing scholarships to Wyandotte Catholic Consolidated school.

A natural mechanic, Ed could fix anything; he joined his father-in-law, Arthur Karp, in the family business, Acal Universal Grinding, in 1959 here he used those skills to build out the business, when he and his brother-in-law, Nick Karp became owner/partners after Arthur passed away unexpectedly in 1961.  Ed led Acal for 60 years and during that time he acquired two companies to support Acal growth, and endured the untimely passing of Nick.  He retired in 2019, proudly turning over the reins to his two sons, Tom and Joe, who had joined him in the business.

Ed is celebrated, honored and remembered by his family and friends for his deep and abiding faith, the values that he lived by and instilled into his children and grandchildren, for his steadfastness and reliability, his mischievousness - he loved a good practical joke, and for his open arms and limitless love that he extended to to his family and friends. He was a man of honor and integrity and will be greatly missed.

Cremation will take place at The On-Site Crematory located within Molnar Funeral Homes - Brownstown Chapel.
