Konstantinos (Kosta) Basile Mavridis. Age 89 of Southgate.

~ Family Tribute ~

Konstantinos (Kosta) Basile Mavridis, born August 8, 1934, departed to the Lord’s Kingdom on December 18, 2023, leaving behind a legacy of love, family, hard work, and loyalty. He is preceded in death by his parents, Vasilios and Eleni, and his sister Evangelia. Kosta is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Argyro, and his cherished daughters, Elaine (Greg) Matthews, and Maria (Jeff) Haviland. His memory lives on in his grandchildren, Konstantinos, Stella, and Andreas, and his brother, Kyriakos (Stella) Mavridis. The warmth of his love extends to his many adored nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Konstantinos grew up in the village of Makrihori, near the city of Kavala in Northern Greece. As a child, he worked in his family’s tobacco field and loved making, building, and fixing things with his hands, like using horsetail hair to make a violin. He served in the Greek Air Force, and worked in his uncle’s shoe store. Kosta set sail for America in 1967, where he met the love of his life, Argyro. They married in 1969, and welcomed their daughters, Elaine and Maria, in 1971 and 1974. His love of building and fixing things (and use of duct tape) earned him the nickname “MacGyver.” As the incredibly selfless man he was, Kosta was always willing to help family and friends with anything and everything he could.

Kosta worked at McLouth Steel for over 25 years and learned a lot of skills and colorful language. He always supported and encouraged his daughters, and taught them how to take care of their cars. From the beginning, Kosta had a mutual and respectful partnership and marriage with Argyro.

Kosta was always extremely proud of his Greek heritage and a proud member of the Pan-Macedonian Association. Sharing and teaching his children and grandchildren about the history, language, culture, and music of Greece is something that will always be a part of his legacy.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in his name to Downriver Foster Closet or Fish and Loaves.
