FAMILY TRIBUTE
Known to some as Jeannie, others as Jeanne (with an “e”), Jean Ann Beaudrie proclaimed herself “the pretty sister.” The third of four sisters, Jean was born July 20th, 1935 in Waukon (Iowa) to a German mother and Irish father -- a lineage she remained proud of throughout her life. After moving to La Crosse (Wisconsin) Jean ultimately made Detroit (Michigan) her home, where she mothered seven children and enthusiastically took on the roles of grandma and great-grandma.
Being a mother and grandmother served as the core to Jean’s identity. She nurtured and cared for all of her grandchildren, helping her children raise babbling babies, and troublesome teenagers. And when her grandchildren made Jean a great-grandmother, she continued the same cycle of care.
In 1997, Jean retired from JC Penney. There, she had fostered life-long friendships, considered some of her closest girlfriends as her family. Jean enjoyed her retirement with crosswords, needlework, puzzles, and books. She often vacationed with her family, and took regular trips to the casino with her son, sister, brother-in-law, and son-in-law
Jean remained a dedicated servant to the Lord. She was a parishioner of St. Cyprian Catholic Church in Riverview, where she attended weekly services and ensured her grandchildren attended catechism. Her faith was emblazoned by her devotion to God, keeping a rosary and prayer card in each of her purses.
Friends and family will forever remember Jean for her feisty nature and headstrong attitude. She was quick-witted, and was sure to crack jokes during the hardest of times – if for nothing else, but to keep everybody around her smiling. She wore lipstick unapologetically. And with her lips stained in hues of pinks and reds, Jean offered a final piece of advice just before she reunited with the Lord: “Be good. Be kind. And the Lord will reward you.”
