Obituary of Robert Yack

November 5, 1942 – May 12, 2024

Robert Benjamin Yack.  Age 81 of Wyandotte.

Robert (Bob) Yack passed away Sunday, May 12, 2024.  His health had been in decline for the last few months, he chose to go into Hospice care a week before his passing.

Son to Gertrude Adele Schimmelfennig and Benjamin Frederick Yack, brother to Tom Yack.  

He grew up in the Trinity Lutheran Church family where he also married his wife Janet Yack (Green).  They had three children: Dennis, Debbie, and Daniel.  Three grandchildren:  Reagan, Scarlett, and Solomon.  

After graduating from Theodore Roosevelt High School in 1961, he served in the Navy for over 4 years as a Hospital Corpman.  Tom remembers “on his discharge date Bob was informed that he was put on an involuntary hold for a few months and boy was he unhappy about that”.

Bob was a lifelong resident of Wyandotte, serving on their Fire Department for 32+ years.  He could often be seen driving around town on his motorcycle or a big pickup truck.  

Always on the go, he wore several hats or in today’s terms side hustles. “Vinyl is final.”   A term used for his vinyl siding, doors and windows business. Skilled in woodworking, he made furniture and name plates.  Later in life Bob and Janet were avid craft show travelers selling his beautiful wooden crosses and baskets; even taking his tools across the country to Texas where they often went for the winter months.

When the kids were young the Yack’s would pile into a motorhome and drive across the country for weeks at a time, even reaching Disneyland in California, Daniel remembers, when he was just 7 years old.  

Robert loved his family, his wife and his dogs.  He will be missed.

Robert is buried next to his wife at Michigan Memorial Cemetery.

His memorial will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church on Friday May 24, 2024 at 11:00 AM, 465 Oak Street, Wyandotte MI 48192.  Lunch and visiting to follow the service.
