Family Tribute ~

Laura was born in Grainger County Tennessee on June 6, 1936 to George and Mary Johnson. She was the seventh of eight children.

After high school she moved to Michigan and started working at Harper Hospital, this is where she and her husband Richard met.  Richard had noticed her in the stairwell one day and came up with a master plan to get her to notice him.  While he hid in the hospital morgue, under a blanket on a gurney, a friend of Richard’s helped by getting Laura to the morgue.  Once she entered, Richard popped up from the gurney and surprised her! He made quite the impression on Laura and they married soon after that.

Laura and Richard had been married for 65 years as of December 2023.  Together they raised four wonderful children, Sheryl, Karen, Steven and Lisa. They were blessed with ten grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Laura worked at Rivergate Terrace for many years where she started out as a nurse's aid and proudly worked her way up to Office Manager.  She made many great friends throughout her career at Rivergate Terrace before she retired in 1993.

Laura was a devout parishioner at First Baptist Church in Trenton for over 50 years. She truely loved helping others at the church and would assist with funerals and luncheons.

Laura loved to travel.  When the kids were younger they went on family vacations to Myrtle Beach and East Tennessee to visit family and friends. As they got older and kids got married and moved out, they would travel with the church senior group.

Laura had a witty personality - she was filled with love, spunk and a little attitude! She was a loving mom who will be remembered for the love of her family, church and God.
