Family Tribute ~

David (DJ) Marshall was born to proud parents Maureen (Lewis) and David Marshall in 1995. He was their second child, making Kimberley a big sister. 20 months later, David became a big brother when Mike came along. David was equally excited to be a big brother again when his half-brother Alex was born in 2005. While not always perfect, David maintained a strong relationship with all of his siblings throughout his entire life. They always supported each other as family but also as friends. David knew how lucky he was to have such a tight-knit family; and made sure to instill that into his own family later on down the road.

David was proud to be from Wyandotte. David attended McKinley and Jefferson Elementary Schools; was promoted to Wilson Middle School. After that, David graduated from Roosevelt High School in 2014. As a child, David participated in multiple community organizations including: the Wyandotte Academy Youth Choir, the Wyandotte Braves, and the Downriver Wrestling Club. Over the course of his academic journey he was a member of multiple sports teams and clubs including: WMS Wrestling and Football Teams, WMS Chorus, RHS Varsity Wrestling Team, RHS Varsity Football Team, and the RHS ACapella Choir.

After graduation, David knew he wanted to go straight to work. He worked a series of different jobs while waiting for a spot to open up at Ford Motor Company. David grew up wanting to work at Ford like his (multiple) Uncles, his Grandfather, and his Great-Grandfather; that legacy was everything to him. He aspired to one day be in leadership at the UAW; a dream he would have fulfilled had his time not been cut short.

David had a deeply held belief that we should all leave things better than we found them. He especially believed this at work with the UAW. He was a part of a core group of people whose advocacy made it so that all future employees are fairly treated on day one of their employment. He sincerely believed in the power of Unions and Collective Bargaining.

Another way that belief was evident was in David’s altruism. David believed in giving back to the organizations that impacted him growing up. David was an assistant coach for both the Downriver Wrestling Club as well as the Wyandotte Braves. He was an involved volunteer with the Wyandotte Academy Youth Choir and was a Jefferson WatchDOG. David loved being able to volunteer and help shape the minds of tomorrow. As a coach and a WatchDOG, David was mindful to reach out to kids and make sure they all felt seen and heard.

David’s favorite things to be called were “Husband” and then “Dad”. David and Jennifer met during their time at RHS, they started dating in 2015, and ultimately married in 2020. Together, they created the most beautiful blended family that truly personifies love: David, Jen, Evalon, Jaxen, Harlynn, and Ayva. David worked hard each day to ensure his family was taken care of, prioritizing his wife and children above everything else.

David wanted nothing more than to leave the world better than he found it, to make things a little easier for the ones who came after him, and we will forever be grateful that he did just that.
