Obituary of Denise James
November 29, 1957 - August 15, 2024
Denise (Dusseau) James, of Toledo, Ohio, passed away on August 15 at the age of 66 after a long fight with metastatic breast cancer. In the nearly twenty-three years since her first diagnosis and the three years since her first recurrence, she never gave up hope and never stopped fighting.
Denise loved her family above all else and was the beloved mother of Chrystina (Jin Yi Chong) James, loving grandmother of Alexander Chong, dearest daughter of Virginia (Ken Adams) and the late Robert Dusseau, dear sister of Renae Sutton, and loving aunt and great-aunt of Francis Sutton, James Sutton, and their families.
Denise spent her life caring for others and was the kindest person with the biggest heart. She was truly passionate about her job as a nurse and made a difference for thousands of patients and their families through her work. She looked for the best in people and her door was always open to anyone who needed a helping hand. She loved Michigan football, her pets, canning, crafting, reading, and working in her garden. She lived a life full of courage and hope and inspired everyone around her to do the same.
While we deeply mourn her loss, we take comfort in knowing that she is no longer suffering. We are also so grateful that she was able to meet her grandson, Alex, and spend a few months as the best grandma we could have asked for.
If you knew Denise, you know she did not like being the center of attention. As per her wishes, there will be no services. We’d love for you to honor her life by doing something kind for someone. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial contribution to the Detroit Dog Rescue or the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
