Obituary of Catherine Elizabeth Thayer
October 12, 1947-November 15, 2024
Catherine Thayer sadly passed away on November 15, 2024 at age 77. Cathy graduated from Wyandotte’s Roosevelt HS, attended Michigan State and graduated from Wayne State in 1972 with a degree in Art Education.
With job prospects thin, Cathay enrolled in the nursing program at Mercy College in Detroit and graduated as class valedictorian in 1978 as a Registered Nurse. After a short stint at Wyandotte Hospital, she hired on with the Wayne County Health Department in the PRESCAD unit and ultimately with Visiting Nurse. Eventually, Cathy returned to her first love: creating beautiful works of clay art and oil paintings; frequently exhibiting her work at area art fairs.Cathy also loved planning trips to Europe and saw many original Renaissance paintings, frescoes and sculptures particularly in Rome, Florence and Venice. She also traveled to Portugal, Greece, Netherlands, Belgium, England, Scotland, Ireland, France, Germany, Mexico and several islands in the Caribbean.Cathy’s only child, Peter Kornblum, tragically died in 2013 at age 40. She is also predeceased by her parents, Helen and Buell Thayer and her brothers, Bill and David Thayer.She is survived by her loving, second husband of 34 years, Michael Conway, who married her on Valentine’s Day, 1990.
Visitation will be at Molnar Funeral Home-Nixon Chapel, 2544 Biddle Ave., Wyandotte, Tuesday, November 19, 2024 from 1 - 9 PM.
