Obituary of Albert W. Hellar Sr.
December 9, 1942 - January 19, 2025
Albert Warren Hellar Sr., a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on January 19, 2025, at the age of 82.
Born on December 9, 1942, in Detroit, Michigan to Harold W. Hellar and Lillian Beryl Hellar (Featherston), he was the eldest of his four siblings; Lance, George, Greg, and Patricia. He graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1961. He then went on to study at Henry Ford Community College and graduated from Lawrence Institute of Technology with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He started as a technician at Ford Motor Company and worked his way up to an engineering supervisor.
Much of Albert’s life was dedicated to mentoring countless young scouts through the Boy Scouts of America- teaching them the values of leadership, service, and community. His contributions were recognized with numerous awards, including the Silver Beaver Award. He served as a Wood Badge course director for many years, sharing his knowledge, wisdom, and passion with the next generation of Scouting leaders.
Albert’s greatest joy was his family. He was a loving husband to his late wife, Diane, and a proud father to his three sons, Albert Jr. (Sharon) Hellar, Adam (Michelle) Hellar, and Joseph Hellar; five grandchildren, Jessica, Nicholas, Rachel, Alex, and Julia; and great granddaughter, Avery.
Albert left a lasting impact on everyone he met. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and the many scouts whose lives he influenced.
His legacy of service, kindness, and leadership will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
