Obituary of Moe McGillivray
January 25, 1940 – July 24, 2018
Moe McGillivray. Age 79 of Southgate.
Dearest sister of Hugh G. McGillivray, Sr. Dear friend of Jan Chenier. Also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Family Tribute ~
Born in 1940 and raised in Detroit, Michigan, she was the twin sister of Elaine. One of five children of Hugh and Bridgette (nee Scully) McGillivray.
After graduating high school in Detroit she went to work for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Michigan. She built her career and retired from Blue Cross. Upon her retirement, she returned to her family at Blue Cross to continue her career in a consulting role for more than a decade.
Later she found herself “working” as she called it, at several of Detroit's downtown casinos and games of chance. She frequented several casinos as a pastime.
An avid golfer and snow skier, Maureen was an active member of several golf leagues and ski clubs right up until her death. Her younger years found her a passionate softball player and avid bowler. Moe was a dedicated Detroit Lions and Detroit Tigers fan. Sunday afternoons in autumn were always reserved for the Lions.
Her catholic upbringing made her a quiet servant of God, family and friends. She accepted struggles in life with grace and prayed each night to God and the saints for help with family and friends. Slow to anger and generous to those in need, she was happy to go or help where and when needed. Her willingness to help on holidays and at events dubbed her the eternal dishwasher. She always stepped up to help family and friends. The spirit of her generosity will truly be missed.
Rest peacefully Maureen. Thank you for taking care of us.
