November 9, 1949 – January 31, 2019

Carl John Widman.  Age 69 of Onsted.

Beloved husband of Brenda.  Loving father of Kimberly (Mark) Vega and Tracy (Ronald) Nestman.  Dearest grandfather of Emily Nestman, Andrew Nestman, Addisyn Nestman and Kayla (Jeff) Hubbard.

FAMILY TRIBUTE

Carl J. Widman was a loving husband, father, pawpaw and friend.  He loved so many things in life but his first love was Jesus.  He loved to share what Jesus did for him by passing out crosses to everyone he met.  If he had not seen you in a while he would give another one to you.

His second love was his family.  He loved his wife Sue (Brenda) celebrating 51 years in March.  Carl and Sue met their senior year, they fell in love and married after 7 months, all before graduation.  Carl loved to roller skate in his younger years and was very good at it.  In order to afford an engagement ring for his bride he sold his skates for a down payment for her wedding ring.  Carl and Sue were married March 7, 1968 before graduation.  The only regret Carl said he had was that he hadn’t married her sooner.

Carl loved his girls, Kim and Tracy.  He would take them camping every year even though Kim hated the bugs.  He enjoyed the time they all spent away from “every day life stuff” as he would call it.  After many years of camping, Carl decided to take his family to Acapulco, Mexico.  He would stand down on the street bargaining for a one dollar ride.  When he found the cab driver that would accept his deal he would wave at his girls and they would all pile in.  Carl, Sue and family lived in Woodhaven for 23 years before moving to Irish Hills for his last 23 years.

He loved his home or “farm” as he would call it.  Carl loved to hunt.  He loved nature and he would say being in the woods always made him feel closer to God.  Carl spent many days on a lawn mower cutting grass and enjoying God’s creations.  He always took the time to smell the flowers and feed his humming birds.  Carl built a huge cross in his yard that has a light that shines on it and can be seen as you come down his road.  He loved the cross and he would lay all his burdens there.

Carl worked and retired from Ford Motor Company in Wixom.  In his earlier years, he was a brick layer which he was very proud of being.  He was a hard worker and was known for his MacGyver skills.  He could fix anything and was a firm believer in reading directions first.  Carl also loved roller coasters.  During his last few weeks here on earth Carl rode the roughest roller coaster ever to be rode.

He said cancer may have won here on earth but not in heaven.  Carl never said goodbye to his family but until we meet again.  He knew the family circle would be together again someday.  He will be missed greatly but assured his family that they will see him again.
