Mrs. Treadway was an amazing, Godly woman. I knew her as woman of virtue, pose, a business woman and a Sunday School teacher to my son Jacob.
Jacob was 5 when he had her for a teacher. She and Mrs. Chavis had taught him about Jesus and he had asked Jesus into his heart. She taught him about how to share his new found faith with others and helped him make a “wordless” necklace made out of a small leather strap and colorful beads that had a meaning for each one. (BLACK for sin, RED for Jesus earasing your sin away, WHITE for your sins being removed as far as the east is from the west, BLUE for following God in baptism to proclaim your faith, GREEN to grow in your new relationship with God and YELLOW to symbolize being with Jesus in heaven someday..)
Jacob wore that necklace every day. He would not take it off- he loved it! One day someone asked him what it meant and he seemed too shy to respond. His father and I explained to Jacob that the reason he wore it was to share his faith, so if he didn’t want to- he needed to take it off. Jacob LOVED that necklace, so he thought about it and decided (at 5) to conquer his fear and tell people what it meant when they asked. He wore that necklace for almost 2 years! Mrs. Treadway was so proud of that and she was so thankful that God had used her and Mrs. Chavis to help Jacob learn what it meant to start his relationship with God.
I will always treasure that memory. I am truly thankful that she was my children’s Sunday School teacher- I love her and I will miss her! She reached the end of the journey and she is living right now what that YELLOW bead symbolized- heaven with her King and Savior- Praise God!
