Obituary of Francis L. Maslar

October 26, 1987 - November 25, 2019

Francis L. Maslar.  Age 32 of Trenton.  Formerly of Grosse Ile.

Francis (Frankie) Lloyd Maslar, age 32, passed away on November 25, 2019. Frankie was a beloved son, brother, nephew, cousin, uncle, teacher, and friend. He loved others with loyalty, empathy, and compassion and was always fun company.

Born in Langhorne, Pennsylvania on October 26, 1987.  Frankie grew up surrounded by his family and fell in love with sports at a young age. In Pennsylvania, Frankie played basketball and baseball, and he and his teammates on the Tri-Township travel baseball team won many tournaments. After moving with his family to Grosse Ile, MI, in 1999, Frankie continued playing basketball and baseball and became an avid golfer after college. Frankie loved camping at the Lloyd (mothers’ family) property in Genesee Pennsylvania where he and his sisters and cousins would spend endless hours playing in the stream, hiking, hunting for frogs and salamanders. Evenings were spent toasting marshmallows and singing around the campfire while Grandpa Lloyd played his guitar.

Frankie graduated from Grand Valley State University with a Bachelor’s degree in business and economics but found his true calling working with special needs children. He taught special needs students at Madison School in Wyandotte, Michigan, and coached a Special Olympics team with the Madison Center. The students and families he worked with held a special place in Frankie’s heart. Because he so loved working with the special needs community, Frankie was pursuing a Master’s Degree in special education at Eastern Michigan University.

Frankie is survived by his family who all love him dearly: parents, Frank (Cheri) Maslar and Laura (Tim) LaPorte, his sisters Amanda (Patrick) Brondyke and Julia Maslar (Jon Fangboner), his nephew P.J. Brondyke, his grandmother Emily (the late Francis) Maslar, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. Frankie was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Joanne (Rupp) and Ralph Lloyd.

On Friday, December 6, 2019, the family will hold a Memorial Gathering from 1:00-9:00 pm and a Prayer Service, officiated by Frankie’s Uncle Ralph Heagy, at 7:00 pm at Nixon Funeral Home, 2544 Biddle Ave, Wyandotte, MI.

In late spring, Frankies ashes will be interned at Michigan Memorial Cemetery in a peaceful setting overlooking the Huron River.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Madison Center, 4460 18th St, Wyandotte, MI 48192. (Please write “Special Olympics” in the memo field.)
