Obituary of Sheryll Ann Rost

November 26, 1961 - December 21, 2019

Sheryll Ann Rost.  Age 58 of Trenton.

It is with great sadness that the family of Sheryll Ann (Morris) Rost, 58, announces her passing after a long, fearless battle with lung disease.

Sheryll (“Shoo” to her family and life-long friends, Sherry to others) is survived by her daughter, Stefanie Nicole Martin (Kevin), three grandchildren Riana, Kaylee, and Jacob Hassing; her three sisters, Michelle “Mikki” Neal (Burt), Kelly Rhae Morris, and Nicole “Nikki” Ford, nine nieces and nephews, and an enormous, psychotic cat named Buddy. She is predeceased most recently by her nephew Zachary James Ford, her beloved husband of 26 years, Albert “Butch” Rost, Jr., and her parents Judith Ann and Gerald Patrick Morris.

Sherry was a lifelong resident of the Downriver area, having been raised in Wyandotte and graduating from Theodore Roosevelt High School (Class of ’79). After high school, she enlisted in the Army as a military police officer and was stationed in Germany, Maryland, and Hawaii. Once she left the military, however, she felt the pull to return home and made her way back to Michigan, where she participated in various local softball leagues and met her second husband, Butch. They eventually settled in Trenton where their time together was spent with friends, whom she considered a second family - often barbequing on their backyard deck, working in their yard, and restoring cars. After retiring from Masco Corporation, Sherry dedicated her time at the VFW Post 1888 Trenton and the American Legion Post 426, often spending her holidays cooking home-cooked meals for the veteran members and dear friends.

Known to many as a no-nonsense “tough” lady, those that knew her knew that she also had a heart of gold. In recent years she discovered a talent and a passion for baking and often shared her creations with loved ones and “her” veterans. She was someone that a person could count on, and one who would quietly offer assistance to those who needed it. She adored spending time with her daughter and her grandchildren at their home in Georgia, and the times when she and her sisters were able to get together for family gatherings or just to hang out. She was the keeper of family recipes, the giver of quirky gifts, and a dedicated Detroit sports fan.

A celebration of Sherry’s life is scheduled at the VFW Post 1888 Trenton at 2763 Veteran's Pkwy. in Trenton MI, on December 30th, 2019 from 2 pm to 5 pm in the Upper Hall. The family requests guests please wear bright colors. She will be interred with Butch at Michigan Memorial Park.
